About Jolyn Brand

I started working with low-income high school students in Pasadena in 2006. Many of my students didn’t expect to go to college, so I started with encouragement, advice and guidance.  As a teen mom myself, I was able to motivate students who didn’t think it was possible. I was also the only one in my family to graduate from college, so I understood the struggle to undergo the process alone.

I began to guide my entire senior-level classes through college video tours, college essays and applications, and the financial aid process. A majority of my students turned into first-generation college students!

I continued with this process throughout my teaching career: helping any students from the area schools, my neighbor’s children, anyone who needed assistance.

In 2010, I got the opportunity to pursue this passion full time and have loved every minute of it! I guide my clients through picking colleges and possible majors to decorating their dorm rooms.

I am a graduate of the University of Houston where I received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).  I then went on to earn a Master’s of Education (M.Ed.). I taught Reading and English in public middle and high schools in Houston, Texas for more than seven years. I also taught English at local community colleges and online for a national university.

I now own and direct Brand College Consulting, which provides resources for students to attain their higher education goals. I provides assistance with the financial aid process and the admission process to public and private colleges and universities.

I have  four children and reside in Friendswood, Texas with my husband, David. Our oldest just decided to attend Texas A&M and we are very proud of him. The other three are working on their college selections.
