Congratulations! You’re done submitting your college applications! Now what?
Unfortunately, the upcoming time period of waiting for admissions decisions can be stressful. But you can’t just sit back and wait! Here are a few things to work on while waiting….
Create College Portal Accounts
Many colleges offer student applicants an account online to check their application status. Often called Application Information Systems or Portals, these websites can be very handy for students. Using the portal, many students can check to see if their high school transcripts or letters of recommendation have been received by the college.
Texas A&M has a Howdy Portal and UT uses MyStatus where students can check their application status and access information about admissions, honors, housing, financial aid and more.
Check Your Emails
Colleges will communicate with students via their email accounts. If the student is missing a crucial admissions document, they will request it via email. Colleges will also send notifications for scholarships, financial aid, Honors college applications, and admissions decisions via email. Did I mention that seniors should regularly check their emails?
Apply for Scholarships
Late Fall and Spring of senior year is a gerat time for students to apply to scholarships. Check each college’s website for any additional requirements and check scholarships.com for private scholarships. Be proactive and keep track of scholarship requirements and due dates.
Check Your Social Media Accounts
Colleges might be checking your social media presence so log out and see what is visible from the ‘public’ view.
Avoid Senoritis
Some colleges may ask for your first semester grades or an update on your progress after application
