What It Means To Be a Private College Counselor or Consultant

July 16, 2012 By Jolyn Brand

As an independent college consultant,  I love meeting potential new clients and students. One of the things that I’m learning very quickly while networking and introducing myself is that most people don’t really understand what I DO.  Most of the other networkers fit into well-known descriptions: lawyers, realtors, financial planners, and sales reps. I find myself explaining not only what I do, but why it’s important and necessary. Many people … [Read more...]

I already have a counselor at my high school, so why do I need the services of the Brand College Consulting (BCC)?

February 18, 2012 By Jolyn Brand

As you may have heard the public school budgets are in a crunch, and public school counselors are busier than ever.  Most high school counselors do an excellent job, but they have large caseloads including hundreds of students and many duties in addition to college counseling. Most public high school counselors are responsible for more than 500 students, master schedules, lunch duty, Red Ribbon Week, and many other duties. To exacerbate this … [Read more...]

My daughter isn’t interested in applying to very selective colleges. Do you work with students applying to a range of schools?

February 16, 2012 By Jolyn Brand

As a College Consultant, my job and passion is to find the right college and major for each individual student. Every year, I work with students who are in the top 5% of their class and want to attend Ivy League universities, students in the top quarter who go to state private or public universities, students who want to start at community colleges, and students who would prefer trade or vocational schools instead of a ‘typical’ … [Read more...]

Our experience with Jolyn Brand was exceptional. She was very responsive to us and offered valuable guidance throughout the college preparation and application process. My daughter got in to all of the schools in which she applied, even her stretch school. We credit Jolyn with helping us to make sure her resume, application and essays were top notch.

Brand College Consulting was GREAT for our son! We met Ms. Brand when my son was in 7th grade! We saw her for an hour consult yearly to help him select his classes, plus a little algebra tutoring in high school. He was ahead of others course-wise and we were able to get 21 hours dual credit in high school, he made the Dean's List, Phi Theta Kappa, and Natl Society of High School Scholars. We are a family of Texas State Bobcats and it's very competitive now to get in but he did and we are thrilled! I recommend Ms. Brand and her services! My youngest daughter attended tutorial services with Ms. Brand. Due to the exemplary, SAT preparation services, my daughter was accepted into several top colleges including the University of Houston, Texas State, Lamar University, and Sam Houston. As a college student, she received scholarships and has been on the Dean's list every semester. Ms. Brand instilled confidence in my daughter. I will be forever grateful.
