The New ACT Essay

November 10, 2015 By Jolyn Brand

The ACT Writing section (aka the essay) is new for the 2015-2016 school year.  What’s the difference between the old and new ACT essay question? In other words, as the ACT puts it, … [Read more...]

Factors That Help Students in College Admissions

September 24, 2015 By Jolyn Brand

Your high school grades are the #1 factor in the college admission decision. Other factors count, but the body of work you develop in high school is what matters most—as it should.  Colleges do not choose students by the numbers only—they don’t simply take the students with the highest grades and test scores. Colleges use many other factors to add depth to the numbers, and to compare applicants with each other to build a class that fits the … [Read more...]

New College List Ranks by Service to the Community

US News College Rankings is the 'popular' college ranking lists, but since they use questionable data that skews towards the Ivy Leagues, many professionals in the field want more, a better list, more information. Washington Monthly has given that to us. New College Scorecard Website

September 14, 2015 By Jolyn Brand

Two years, President Obama announced that the government planned to start ranking colleges based on their students' outcomes, such as their graduation rates, salaries, and success paying back loans. The idea was to help young adults make more informed decisions about applying to school while humiliating the worst-performing institutions into mending their ways. The administration also wanted to tie schools' eligibility for certain kinds of … [Read more...]

Our experience with Jolyn Brand was exceptional. She was very responsive to us and offered valuable guidance throughout the college preparation and application process. My daughter got in to all of the schools in which she applied, even her stretch school. We credit Jolyn with helping us to make sure her resume, application and essays were top notch.

Brand College Consulting was GREAT for our son! We met Ms. Brand when my son was in 7th grade! We saw her for an hour consult yearly to help him select his classes, plus a little algebra tutoring in high school. He was ahead of others course-wise and we were able to get 21 hours dual credit in high school, he made the Dean's List, Phi Theta Kappa, and Natl Society of High School Scholars. We are a family of Texas State Bobcats and it's very competitive now to get in but he did and we are thrilled! I recommend Ms. Brand and her services! My youngest daughter attended tutorial services with Ms. Brand. Due to the exemplary, SAT preparation services, my daughter was accepted into several top colleges including the University of Houston, Texas State, Lamar University, and Sam Houston. As a college student, she received scholarships and has been on the Dean's list every semester. Ms. Brand instilled confidence in my daughter. I will be forever grateful.

Client Testimonials

avatarWe originally hired "College Authority" to guide us through the complex trail of financial aid and all other college related questions. They have proven to be a completely inadequate source for help. We then started working with Jolyn and she has been absolutely great with her advice and guidance. She has always answered every question we’ve had clearly so that we had the best information to make a choice (and we had a lot of questions for her).
