College essays can be intimidating and overwhelming, so professional essay editing services are included with all college consulting clients. Most students have to write at least 3 essays, and as many as 8, depending on their selected college list. Deciding what to write about, how long it should be, what to include and what to exclude, and having it proofread are all important considerations and can easily frustrate a teenager.
College essays are also a great way to distinguish your student’s application from other college applicants. They are the only way the college has to get to know more about the student before they judge whether or not he or she would fit in with that college’s culture and programs. I work individually with each college consulting client to assist with the college essays. As a certified high school English teacher, I’ve reviewed thousands of essays. Through years of experience as a college consultant and after speaking with several college admissions officers, I can guide the students with their essays before they make a mistake that can’t be undone.
The ideal time for essay writing is over the summer between junior and senior year, or very early in the senior year of high school. This ensures that the student has ample time to brainstorm and write, and also does not postpone this important task until the already-busy senior year. Most Texas colleges use the Apply Texas application and many other colleges use the Common Application, which may also require writing supplements. Many other colleges, including the University of California system, have separate applications and essays! Students applying to UC colleges select four of the eight essay prompts. Be sure to contact us if you have questions about which college essays your student needs to write.
Having a professional guide the students through the essay writing assists with not only the essays’ content, but also their topics, the time management, and the proofreading. Many families find themselves arguing over possible essay topics or grammar mistakes. Parents feel the need to ‘nag’ their teenager every day about whether or not their essays are getting written. Students push back against this nagging as bothersome and feel even more overwhelmed with the process. I can help avoid the family tension by being the “middle man” (or woman!). I set up timelines and deadlines to get the essays written and then I proofread and edit each one individually.
For consulting package clients, the final essays are saved to the student’s dashboard so that the student and parents have access to it later for college applications. This service is included in the college consulting package.
For parents who would like this service separately, another option is hourly consultations for one-on-one assistance. Hourly consultations are $250/hour and time must be purchased in 4 hour blocks ($1,000) to be billed against. Most students complete 2-3 essays within the 4 hours. Students who need extra assistance or who have more essays required may use more time.
